Restoring the Iconic Copper Domes of Emerson Chambers

S V Rutter Ltd is proud to have been involved in the specialist restoration of the iconic copper domes at Emerson Chambers in Newcastle upon Tyne, working on behalf of Fenwick, the building’s owners, whose continued investment has been instrumental in preserving this historic landmark.

The refurbishment involved the careful restoration of the domes’ intricate copperwork, including individually crafted decorative copper leaves that form their distinctive overlapping patterns. Each element required specialist craftsmanship, precision and attention to detail to ensure the original architectural character was faithfully maintained.

Working alongside the restoration of the traditional timber framework, the copper detailing was carefully shaped and installed using specialist techniques, combining traditional metalworking skills with modern conservation practices.
