Specialist copper restoration at Emerson Chambers.

One of the most distinctive features of Emerson Chambers is its two magnificent copper domes, which have formed part of Newcastle’s skyline for more than 120 years. As part of the restoration programme, SV Rutter Ltd is carrying out the specialist conservation and refurbishment of these historic architectural features.

Working with traditional copper requires exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Each dome has been carefully inspected before repairs are undertaken, with damaged sections restored using traditional fabrication techniques to match the original design. The decorative copper scrolls and ornamental details are also being sympathetically repaired, preserving the building’s unique Art Nouveau character.

By combining traditional skills with modern conservation practices, SV Rutter is ensuring these iconic domes continue to protect and enhance one of Newcastle’s most recognisable Grade II* listed buildings for generations to come.
